Experiment : Iterating the Template I
Based on the feedback from the first draft of the of persona template examples I published:
I am going to need to iterate the template.
I will need to add a new area for Organisation / Business Unit as putting them in the Aligned Roles area was confusing.
And the Data Fluency and Technical Fluency sliders also had people confused.
I have been tempted to include my T-Skills pattern in the persona template for a while but if I add that as a new area we will be up to 18 areas and gut feel that is to many.
Also the t-skills area would only really apply to the Data professional Persona Type not the Information Consumer and I really would prefer to not have an area on the template that is based on an “if then else” pattern.
So I will try and iterate the entire Engage section to see if there is a better way of dealing with those changes.
Down a colour, layout and sizing rabbit hole
And of course as soon as I started to experiment with iterating with the template I went down an unexpected rabbit hole.
Original template version:
Colour
What would happen if I lost the strong pink background colour in the Engage section.
Nope think it washes it put to much.
Layout
What if I change the layout:
One of the bits of positive bits of feedback I got on the Information Product Canvas was the split of Business Context on the left and Data Team Context on the right.
I think the Data Persona Template looks better with a split of text on the left and visuals on the right. Its also something I see a lot in other persona templates.
So its a nope for that iteration.
Size / Perspective
One of the other things I have been mulling is the widescreen format of the template.
When you print it out on A4 it leaves a space at the top and bottom of the page.
We are constrained for space at the moment, so maybe moving to a standard A4 size / perspective will give a better layout.
Nope again, maybe its because I have got used to the perspective in the original template but this iteration looks to “squished” to me.

So back to thinking about how to rejig the entire Engage section, add that Business Unit list in and oh I forgot I need to add an “Alert” icon to the Content Delivery area as well.
So Iterating the Template II is on the cards for the near future.
